This bad ass, Ratty, Bobber from Garage Company is the ducks nuts. I've seen many attempts at converting the modern Bonneville in to a hard tail and most of them look like junk. Then along comes Garage Company with what looks like a fairly basic conversion and blows them all out of the water. Best of all the less you clean this bad boy the better it will look. Job well done.

The guys at Low Brow Customs have just returned from Bonneville speed week where they clocked up some respectable passes on these two stunning, hardtailed Triumph Bobbers they purpose built for the event. They ran in to a few technical problems which is to be expected at an event like Bonneville but managed to clock up 121MPH on his bike...pretty impressive for an old Triumph.

When I first saw these bikes my jaw dropped. The boys but a lot of time into the bikes both aesthetically and mechanically....as you can see the results were pretty impressive

The Falcon motorcycles website isn't even showcasing a full gallery of Kestrel images yet but it seems someone managed to get their hands on these great shots.

The workmanship is simply stunning. The tasetful and limited use of brass and copper keeps your eyes moving around the bike as they search for the next beautifully finished or intricately detailed component. It would be a shame if this incredible Triumph Bobber doesn't get ridden.

The Kestrel by Falcon Motorcycles

Falcon Motorcycles who brought you the much talked about "Bullet" (see above) have finally completed the second bike in their 10 motorcycle, British themed/based series, The Kestrel (below).

"This new falcon motorcycle has been a long time coming... In 2008 we made the Bullet and lost our workshop. In 2009, we found a new one in the form of a welding factory downtown... and started to turn it into a space where we'd be able to start to build our custom motorcycles and not have to stop again. By the end of 2009, we were ready and rearing to go, and the 'Kestrel Falcon', our first bike since the Bullet is finally completed."

The Falcon Kestrel is amazing and although it's practicality as a road bike is questionable only the die hard riders will have bad things to say about this bike.

"The Kestrel started as the unit-engine of a 1970 Triumph Bonneville, with damage to it's gearbox. Ian's solution was to cut the transmission off, redesign the engine, then make the frame from scratch to fit the new engine set up. With the exception of a few critical pieces such as the crankcases, a BSA transmission, and 10 inches of the original Triumph headstock, everything else – including the frame, girder front forks, gas and oil tanks, exhausts, handlebars, levers, even the cylinders - was fabricated in-house. Every design element, from handle bars to foot controls is sketched out, hand drawn by Ian, and then machined to detail in-house by Ian and our skilled team: Scott Jones and Troy Morris."

Old School Helmets - Pinstripe your helmet!

I've been eyeing off a Biltwell open face helmet for some time new and due to a couple of sales I made on eBay I decided it was time to make the purchase. The new range of Mega Flake open face helmets look outstanding and the Root Beer colour was my fave.

So as always before I made my purchase I did a bit of research about the helmets and thankfully came across a post on The Jockey Journal by Josh from Old School Helmets.

Old School Helmets will take a brand new Bitwell or Fulmer (V2) helmet and will create a beautifully Pinstriped and leafed helmet to your liking. So I spent a bit of time looking through the helmets they had done in the past, picked out my favorite design features and threw in a personal nickname to boot (it just happened to be old skool...coincidence or was it meant to be?). I contact Josh with details about the helmet I wanted and the designed I was after and he got me a price by the next day.

You may remember in my post about Josh's Yamaha XS650 bobber a while I mentioned that he works at G&L Choppers so Old School Helmets is a side project of his...this said he turned around my helmet in record time and I had it in my hands in a little bit over 2 weeks...which is incredible seeing as we live on opposite sides of the globe!

Josh was even kind enough to document the making of my helmet and send me through some pics which you can scroll through below.

My custom pinstriped Biltwell helmet looks even better in the flesh and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Old School Helmets to anyone looking for a custom open face lid. Visit the website and drop Josh an email to get him started on your own pinstriped creation.

Nothing fancy is an intersting name for this bike as fancy is all I see here.

Bid on a BSA Bobber

Spotted this awesome BSA A65 Bobber on eBay today. She's had a full rebuild down to the last bolt and has only done 20 mils since the rebuild was done.

The lines on this bike are beautiful. Simple straight pipes, straight bars with minimal pull back and barebones wiring. It's clean as hell and looks the business.

Lime Green Goodness - Yamaha XS650 Bobber

The other day I got in touch with Josh Scott from Old School Helmets to hook me up with a one-off, custom pinstriped and gold leaf Biltwell open faced lid (Sweeeeet!). During our emails back and forth Josh happened to send me through a couple of pics of his 1978 Yamaha XS650 which he has transformed in to a stunning lime green Bobber.

Josh works at G&L Choppers in Colorado Springs, USA where he and his friend/owner of G&L Choppers, Rich Ford constructed the bike.

Here's what Josh told me about the bike...

"I rolled the rear fender on the english wheel, made the round electric box and end caps and the battery box. Also made the mid controls and spun the pegs out of brass. Mounted everything on the bike, wired it from scratch and painted it. HOK Lime Gold Candy over a black base. My buddy Steve Havens pinstriped it for me."

I love the wine red shifter knob and the paintwork on the fuax oil tank (housing the electrics) and battery box, details like these are the difference between a nice looking bike and a show piece.

While it's not a Triumph it's certainly a great example of a Bobber. I am currently building a 1979 Yamaha XS650 Cafe Racer which I considered converting in to a Bobber before I began. The XS650 makes a great project bike for anyone wanting to attempt their own project bike. Big thanks to Josh for sharing info and pics of his bike.

The Harbortown Bobber Movie has had it's premiere screening and will soon be released on DVD (have you pre-ordered your copy?).

It looked like a great night was had by all and I hope the guys have loads of success with this the 3rd Documentary to come out of One World Studios.

I have to say I love who the Triumph Bobber turned out.

From the peanut tank sitting up high on the frame to the low slung bars it really is a work of art. I'm already looking forward to seeing what their next project's gonna look like.

As with any event of this kind the car park is always a treasure trove of 2 wheeled delights like this green Triumph Bobber.

Land of the Rising Sun XS650 Bobber

I've seen a lot of Yamaha XS650 Bobbers (sprung rear) but this is easily one of my favorites. Love the wheels, the front brake, the tank, the pipes...it's a work of art. Only in Japan will you find Yamahas this cool. This one appeared at one of the Moon Eyes shows a year or so ago.

Bobbed Hogs - Garage Company

It's a bit of topic but only just and I figure if I'm talking about Bobber's why not include a bit of something for everyone. So with that said here we have Garage Company.

Garage company is based in LA California and was started by a Japanese motorcycle named Yoshinobu Kosaka in 1984. There's a whole story about how the company came to be on the Garage Company website but that's not what really interests me. What I like about Garage Company are their totally bad ass and uniquely styled Harley Davidson based Bobbers!

Here we have a "1983 Harley Davidson Bobber with a E1340cc Rebuilt motor, custom goose neck frame, wide glide front fork, custom gas tank, very unique hand made muffler, complete custom by Garage Company,Paint by SCOTT, pinstripe by SKRATCH very famous VON DUTCH style art work.This is piece of art and very good running motorcycle".

Back 2 basics Bobber

Nothing beats good ol' Black & White paint schemes.

Black powdercoated rims, Biltwell saddle, Firestones and swept back pipes give me a woody.

Not sure if this is a finished bike as there seems to be a lack of clutch (hand or foot) and I can't see a jockey shifter anywhere.

The Saving Grace

The Saving Grace Triumph Bobber was built by saint motorbikes a one man outfit who's time is split between working at his real job (Hot Rod Refinishers) and building beautiful machines such as this one.

Saving Grace started off as chopper style bag of vomit and was transformed in to a rolling work of art.

Even before the final paint was applied this bike was looking awesome and for some people would have been fine left in this state.

But as it is in life some people like their toys rough and ready and some like em shiny so Grace was given a good polish and a few coats of green gold.

Dan or SuperCrouton builds beautiful Triumph Bobbers. His work is intricate, professional and full of style. The bikes are stunning and the attention to detail is amazing. He has a great eye for design and adds his own flair to each Bobber build he has completed. The Harbortown Bobber - pre-order now

One World Studios (the guys who brought us great great Doco's like ChopperTown: The Sinners and BritTown) are about to realse another much anticipated title labeled The HarborTown Bobber.

This latest film focuses on the fabrication of the HarborTown Bobber motorcycle. Here's how they describe it...

"Two years in the making, The Harbortown Bobber follows the ground-up build of Scott DiLalla's '69 bobber as various back yard masters put their hands on it creating a unique custom motorcycle and telling their own personal stories along the way."

Appearances include: Irish Rich (Sinner Nomad), Earl Kane (Earl's Bikes), J-Bird (Japanese Jay), Jonathan Smith, Todd's Cycles, U.S. Customs, Dennis Goodson and the music of The Lords of Altamont.

The films bagged a heap of film awards already and the bike itself has also won itself a fair bit of attention. The films currently being screened at select events around the US and can be pre-ordered now on the Chopper Town website.

Triumph Bobber inspiration

There's many reasons why I want to build a Triumph Bobber. A few years back I wouldn't have even considered the prospect of building anything that resembled a Chopper but my Cafe Racer passion has emersed me in to a world of custom motorcycles I never knew existed. The Bobber style caught my attention because it's not about being the toughest guy on the block. It's about expression, style and making a statement. Building a Bobber is a project anyone with any budget can undertake.

The style is so loose and varied that no one's gonna tell you it's not done right. You can have a hardtail or a sprung rear end, the bars can be low, ape or whatever. You want a front brake that's up to you...if not fuk it throw the old one away.

So my research has started. There's plenty out there to get inspired by so in an attempt to hopefully inspire someone else to give it a shot I will post a heap of photos on the blog of some of my favorite Bobber. Be they Triumphs, Jap bikes, Harley's or whatever they will all be cool and hopefully I will end up with a Triumph Bobber as cool as these bikes.

The Triumph Bobber Project

After completing a couple of Cafe Racer builds I have decided to venture in to the world of the Bobber and what better bike to use than an old Triumph. I will be posting my research, inspiration and eventual build process here.

Why a Triumph? Well apart from them being the ultimate classic bike and the endless supply of custom parts (including bolt on/weld on hardtails!) I've always wanted one. In the past my lack of mechanical knowledge put me off old bikes but I'm now ready for the challenge.
